Vacation

🌦 When is the best time to travel to Bali?

The best months to visit Bali are May, June, July, August, September and October. During this time, the Indonesian island is under the influence of the southeast monsoon, which guarantees perfect beach weather with over 30°C.

😍 What do I definitely need to see on my trip?

Bali offers so many beautiful beaches and sights that you should not miss. I think everyone who visits Bali should climb the highest volcano of the island - Gurung Agung. And you should use the dry season for activities like snorkeling, diving and surfing. I'll be writing a detailed blog post soon about what else you need to see on your Bali trip. Be curious!

📅 How many days should I plan for a Bali trip?

The island province of Bali covers about 5,560 km², including the islands of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. To explore a large part of the province, I recommend you to plan at least 3-4 weeks.

🧳 What should I pack for my Bali vacation?

Swimming trunks and flip-flops of course! Just kidding... So you should take a little more with you. I've put together a detailed packing list for you that is perfect for a vacation to Indonesia, Thailand, etc. (i.e. for the warmer regions in Southeast Asia). Here you can find the backpacking packing list for 2023.

📶 Is there good internet/wifi in Bali?

Bali is a hotspot for digital nomads. Most hotels, cafes and co-working spaces are equipped with good wifi. So ideal for those who work remotely and need nothing more than a laptop and internet.

🗺 What is the best way to get from A to B in Bali?

The best thing to do in Bali is to rent a scooter. This costs you between 2-5€ per day (depending on how long you rent the scooter). But be careful... The traffic in Indonesia is very turbulent and even with experience a scooter is not necessarily safe. Alternatively, you can always book a cab or a driver who will take you on his scooter (Grab).

Bali belongs to Indonesia and is located in the Indian Ocean. The currency on Bali is the Indonesian Rupiah. 1€ is currently equivalent to about 16,300 IDR. (as of 11/2022)

💦 How much will an apartment with pool cost me for one night?

The prices for a double room with pool vary greatly and depend largely on the region in which you want to stay. Here, no general figure can be named, with which you could start something. The costs are almost unlimited. Basically, the accommodations in Bali are usually a bit more expensive than in other parts of Indonesia.

💶 How much budget should I plan for two weeks Bali?

As a backpacker you should plan for two weeks Bali about 600€. This includes accommodation, food and activities. The average traveler spends about 55€ per day in Bali. In my opinion, this is a bit too high and probably applies more to travelers who party and spend a lot of money on alcohol. If you are interested in a cost estimate for your Bali trip, feel free to drop me a line via the contact form.

🌯 How much do food & drinks cost in Bali (Indonesia)?

A liter of water in the supermarket costs you just 0.30-0.40€, while you pay in many bars and restaurants now significantly more... A cocktail can quickly cost 6-8€. I strongly recommend you to eat in local restaurants as well. You won't find them on TripAdvisor and the street food will cost you just 1-3€. In upscale restaurants you pay more between 10-20€.

💸 How much does a day in Bali cost?

That depends entirely on your wallet. As a broker backpacker you get along well with 20€ I think. For this you get a night in the hostel (about 10€), a delicious breakfast with café (3€) and other meals (4€). Depending on the activity, you have to plan 1-3€ for parking and entrance fee. Food like water or ice cream you get super cheap in every supermarket.

🛵 How much does a scooter cost per day?

The cost of a motorized scooter varies depending on the resort and rental period. In Ubud, for example, you pay 60,000 IDR for a scooter. This is equivalent to 3,50€. On the islands of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan you pay a little more (from 5,00€ per day).

FAQ

Miscellaneous

❌ What should I NOT do in Bali?

During your Bali trip, there are some things you should avoid doing in order not to get into conflict with the law and traditions. These include:

1. Going to temples in private clothes: Balinese temples have certain dress codes that prohibit visitors from going in swimwear or revealing clothing. Cover your shoulders and knees and wear long pants or skirts.

2. Interact with wild animals: There are many exotic animals in Bali that do not want to be disturbed or touched. Avoid giving food to wild monkeys or touching snakes.

3. Drug use: drug possession and use are illegal in Indonesia and can be punished with severe penalties.

4. Underestimate weather: Bali's climate is tropical and it can be hot and humid throughout the year. Wear sunscreen every day and drink plenty of water (not tap water).

🦠 Can I enter Bali without Corona vaccination?

No. Foreign travelers (18 years and older) are required to provide English-language proof of two Covid19 vaccinations (at least 14 days prior to departure; counts as complete vaccination) and to use the Peduli Lindungi app, which must be filled out with personal information. For those fully vaccinated (at least 14 days prior to departure), the quarantine requirement does not apply.

💉 What vaccinations are recommended for a trip to Bali?

For a trip to Bali, you should have your standard vaccinations up to date. These include the Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccination and vaccination against Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio.

It is also recommended to get vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B, as these diseases are common in Indonesia. If you are traveling in rural areas or in areas with a high risk of Malaria, vaccination against Malaria may also be considered.

In any case, you should consult your doctor or a travel vaccination center before your trip to learn about current vaccination recommendations and other health care advice.

⏰ In which time zone is Bali located?

Bali is located in the time zone CET +7, which means that in Indonesia it is already 7 hours later than in Germany.

👤 What is the culture like? What are the local people like?

The people of Bali are generally friendly and helpful and there is a strong community structure on the island. The culture in Bali is very diverse and rich in traditions and customs. The majority of Bali's inhabitants are Hindus and the island is known for its temples and religious celebrations. There are also many other religions in Bali, including Islam, Buddhism and Christianity.

🏥 Is health care provided in Bali?

Health care in Bali is generally good - however, there are differences in the quality and standard of facilities and services in different parts of the island.

In any case, you should take out travel insurance to ensure that you are adequately protected in case of illness or accident.

I also recommend that you carry a first aid kit. This can help you quickly in case of a fall or traffic accident.

😵 Is there a lot of crime in Bali?

Bali is generally a safe travel destination. There are occasional cases of crime, such as pickpocketing and fraud. Some tourists have had their cell phones stolen in traffic. So be extra careful here and always carry your valuables on your body.

💡 What other tips can you give me along the way?

Bali is a popular destination for wellness and yoga vacationers. Among them are many studios and spa facilities that offer traditional Balinese massages. This is a treatment you should definitely have done once.

Bali is also known for its surreal scenery and unspoiled nature, which comes in the form of cliffs, forests and rice terraces. So be sure to take a trip inland as well!
